1.THE BENEFITS OF THE SAUNA

As the body warms in the sauna, blood vessels naturally widen, encouraging healthy blood flow. This gentle increase in circulation helps muscles feel looser, eases physical tension and provides a welcome opportunity to unwind after exercise or a busy day. Beyond the physical benefits, the warmth encourages you to slow down, switch off and enjoy a moment of stillness. You’ll leave the sauna feeling calmer and deeply refreshed.

2. THE BENEFITS OF AN ICE BATH

Stepping into an ice bath can feel challenging at first, but the cold creates an immediate and energising response. Cold water causes blood vessels to narrow temporarily, helping to soothe tired muscles and reduce feelings of soreness following exercise. The sudden change in temperature can also heighten alertness and boost mood through the release of endorphines.

3. WHY COMBINE THEM?

Combining the sauna and ice bath creates a powerful contrast in temperature supporting healthy circulation and aiding recovery. The contrast also creates a unique balance: the warmth helps muscles relax and the mind unwind, while the cold provides a refreshing reset. Together, they can leave you feeling calm and restored making contrast therapy a valuable addition to fitness routines and general wellbeing.

4. HOW TO USE CONTRAST THERAPY

Start gently and allow your body to adapt to the change in temperature. If you are new to contrast therapy, begin with the 10°C ice bath before progressing to the 5°C option:

  • Spend up to 10 – 15 minutes relaxing in the horsebox sauna
  • Take a shower and allow your body to cool down slightly before entering either the 5°C or 10°C ice bath for up to 3 minutes
  • If you’d like to continue the hot-and-cold cycle, plan your sauna time around your booked ice bath slots, allowing your body time to rest and adjust between each round.
  • Stay well hydrated throughout your experience

Please note: Always listen to your body and leave the sauna or ice bath immediately if you begin to feel unwell, light-headed or uncomfortable.

Contrast therapy may not be suitable for everyone. Guests who are pregnant, have heart or circulatory conditions, high blood pressure or any other medical concerns should seek advice from a healthcare professional before taking part.

Hotel guests must book a time slot in advance to use the ice baths.
