Planning weddings is all in a day’s work for Amaelia, our Senior Social Event Sales Manager, but now she’s tackling the ultimate challenge – planning her own! We caught up with Amaelia to find out more.
Hi Amaelia – congratulations on your engagement! Can you tell us about how it happened?
Absolutely! It was at sunrise on the second morning of our holiday in Cape Verde. The place where we were staying at had a beach where turtle eggs had been laid, and we decided to take an early walk to watch the turtles hatch. The beach was empty and we were completely alone, just the two of us.
As we strolled along, we reached the far end of the beach near some rock pools. I suggested we explore them, so I walked ahead, but when I turned back, there was Jordan, down on one knee. In that moment, time seemed to stand still. I was overwhelmed with joy, surprise, and pure excitement—it was such an emotional and intimate moment that I’ll cherish forever.
What’s been the most exciting part of planning your wedding so far?
We’re really taking our time with the wedding planning because we want to enjoy every part of the process and not feel rushed. It’s important to us that each decision reflects who we are as a couple, and by moving at our own pace, we’re able to focus on the details that truly matter. It also allows us to stay stress-free and savour this exciting chapter of our lives without feeling overwhelmed. For us, it’s all about creating a day that feels meaningful and memorable, and taking our time helps ensure that everything comes together just the way we envision
Are you using any tips or tricks that you’ve picked up from weddings you’ve worked on?
We haven’t officially started planning yet, but from all the weddings I’ve worked on, I’ve learned a lot. For instance, staying organised is key, focusing on what truly matters to us as a couple makes all the difference, and adding personal touches can really make the day unforgettable. I’m excited to apply all these insights when it’s our time to plan!
Are there any trends you’d like to incorporate into the wedding?
If you know me well, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of Pinterest, so I’ll be using it to its full potential for the wedding. I’m particularly drawn to two trends: the first is crafting personalised experiences, from custom details that reflect our personalities to interactive activities for our guests. The second is a vintage aesthetic—incorporating vintage-inspired décor and attire to add a touch of timeless elegance that I absolutely adore.
If you could host your wedding anywhere at The Grove, which spot would you pick and why?
I would pick the Sunken Garden for the ceremony. It’s a peaceful, romantic atmosphere, tucked away in our Formal Gardens and surrounded by lush greenery. It’s a private and intimate setting that feels like stepping into a fairy tale.
For the reception, the Amber Suite would be my choice. Its generous space is ideal for celebrating with all our loved ones, and the doors that open into the Formal Gardens offer a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor areas.
How are you staying calm and organised in the lead-up to the wedding?
We’re staying calm and organised by approaching everything step by step, without overwhelming ourselves. As a fan of checklists, I find that using them along with clear timelines keeps everything on track. We’ve also agreed to divide tasks to ensure neither of us feels burdened, making the process more enjoyable and collaborative. Above all, we’re focusing on the bigger picture and reminding ourselves that the day is about celebrating our love, not stressing over the small details.
What’s one thing you’re happy to splurge on, and one thing you’re saving on?
We’re happy to invest in photography and videography to capture the special moments of our day, ensuring we can relive them for years. However, we’re saving on items like favours and smaller decorations, as we believe our guests will remember the experience more than the details, so we’re keeping those simple and cost-effective.

More From Meet the team
The re-creation of The Glasshouse is nearly complete – we can almost hear the drum roll! We caught up with the interior designer behind it all, Martin Hulbert, who gave us some fascinating insights into how his vision for The Glasshouse came together.
At The Grove we understand how important it is to create a very special celebration for your child at this significant time in his or her life. To help, here are the questions that most families ask us when they start planning a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah.
A close encounter with a bird of prey can be truly unforgettable, especially in today’s world. That’s why The Grove offers Woodland Hawking experiences year-round for ages 3 and up. We spoke with Grant Fear, the man behind the glove, about his passion for falconry.
