The Glasshouse
We chat to our Director of Golf, Brad Gould, about a phenomenal year for golf at The Grove…
We are celebrating yet another phenomenal year of golf. We have received some very important accolades and awards over the past 12 months that illustrate the relentless day-to-day team effort that goes on behind the scenes.
One of golf’s most prestigious brands, Golf World, compiles a series of influential rankings – each updated every two years – and 2021 saw the release of a new Top 100 UK & Ireland Resorts list, and the introduction of a World Resorts Top 100, for the first time.
We are proud to, yet again, be near the top of the UK & Ireland list at #16, and globally ranked #76.
In addition, The Grove claimed its place at #27 in Golf World’s Top 100 Modern European Courses ranking, and took home ‘gold’ as England’s Best Golf Hotel, at the 2021 World Golf Awards.
Golf World’s Top 100 Rankings and Resorts editor, Chris Bertram, said of The Grove: “The Kyle Phillips-designed course is one of the few parklands in our GB&I Top 100 – that it muscles in among the storied links and heathlands shows how good it is. And this WGC host is in bewilderingly pristine condition. The hotel is an enjoyable mix of luxury and glamour, with a brilliant spa and gym plus lots of children’s activities.”
One of the most recent successful investments in the golf course, and taking the playing experience and visual appeal to a new level, has been an extensive bunker renovation programme.
In close consultation with original course architect, Kyle Phillips, and his shaping specialist, Theo Travis, The Grove revitalised all 90 bunkers across the golf course, sharpening the look of each sand trap and standardising playability.
I must take this opportunity to congratulate the team who have done a truly outstanding job, under the challenges of the ongoing pandemic-related measures we have all been facing. Award-winning team work at it’s very best, but then I may be slightly biased!

Tiger Woods’ historic win at The Masters on Sunday brought back wonderful memories of when The Grove was fortunate enough to have him compete on our championship golf course and, like at Augusta, he finished a champion.
Tom leads our team of PGA Golf Professionals at The Grove. We caught up with him as he came off the course and quizzed him about why he loves the game, his own story, what it’s like behind the scenes of The Open and his plans for The Grove. If you’re considering lessons to improve your game, read his last answer… there’s one gentleman at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland who has never looked back.
