Briefing and safety notes caret-down

You will need to call 07715 369229 after 9.00 p.m. prior to your early morning flight and after 2.30 p.m. the same day for an evening flight to listen to the flight information which will detail whether it’s taking off, and also if the meet time has changed due to pick up location having to change due to wind direction.

General information caret-down

Hot Air Ballooning is an outdoor activity that requires a reasonable degree of fitness. You will be expected to climb in and out of the basket and be able to follow the safety instructions of the pilot.

Although the flight time is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour this can vary due to weather conditions. Expect the whole excursion to take from 3-4 hours by the time we return to base.

Upon landing, as the pilot needs to get all the air out of the balloon, the basket may tip over and drag which is normal and perfectly safe. The pilot will advise a safe landing position before and during the flight, and instructions must be followed at all times and you must stay in the basket.

You are of course welcome to take as many pictures as you like, and we encourage this. During the landing phase the pilot will ask to stow all your camera equipment in a safe place, remove glasses and tuck any long hair into your top.

Smoking or vaping is strictly forbidden while on the ground in the vicinity of the balloon and during flight. We rely on the goodwill of landowners when we land. Please do not smoke until we reach a public area.

In the event of an emergency on the ground the pilot will explain where the designated meeting point is. In the event of an emergency in the air please follow all instructions given by the pilot.

If you have any questions or concerns at any point please speak with the pilot or crew, we are here to help and primarily for your safety.

Before the flight you will be given a safety briefing card which we ask you to read and understand.

Dress code for your experience caret-down

Please dress as if you were going for a walk in the countryside or park. A warm coat or fleece hoodie would be recommended as it can get very chilly first thing in the morning or late evening. Walking boots or wellingtons would be ideal as the launch site will often be damp in the mornings. Trainers can be worn but these may get dirty due to the wet ground. The temperature in the sky will not be too dissimilar that that on the ground

We advise you to avoid wearing shorts, dresses or skirts and high heels and flip flops are not permitted.

For our taller guests, we would recommend wearing a cap or hat as there will be some radiant heat from the burners.

Passenger restrictions caret-down

Children must be at least 7 years old and be a height of at least 1.4 metre; this is to ensure they will be able to see over the side of the basket and to adopt the correct landing position.

Passengers must be fit and well as our baskets do not have doors and you will be required to climb in and out. You must be able to stand for at least 1 hour and be able to bend your knees. Please note that if you are pregnant, you are unable to fly.

If you have a medical condition, please notify us in advance. If you are unsure as to whether you can fly, please do check with your GP/Doctor. All our pilots are first aid trained.

If you are in excess of 20st (125kg) please contact us prior to booking, as this is to ensure that the total weight of the passengers does not exceed our operational limit.

Weather conditions caret-down

It’s all about the weather! Hot Air Balloons require stable air with winds of less than 8mph on the ground with good visibility. These are the conditions we look for on every flight to give you a safe and enjoyable experience.

Weather conditions can change during the flight which can result in a bumpy hard landing. Our pilots are trained for this and will advise accordingly the safe landing positions.

The magic number caret-down

To find out about the status of your flight, you will need to call 07715 369229 the evening before a morning flight and after 2.30 p.m. the same day for an evening flight.

Due to wind direction changes and other conditions, it may be necessary to change our meeting time and to relocate to anther launch site. We will advise you if this is the case on the recorded message.

It is always disappointing when we can’t fly due to weather but safety is our top priority.
