Welcome to The Grove – can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your golfing background?

I am originally from County Durham in the North East of England. My local golf club I grew up at was Houghton-Le-Spring Golf Club where I won the Club Championship when I was 17 years old. When I was 19, I moved on to study golf for the next 3 years and obtained a first class Bachelor of Science degree in Golf Coaching and Performance at The University Of Central Lancashire.

How would you describe your coaching approach in three words?

Methodical. Unprejudiced. Captivating.

What do you focus on first when helping someone improve their game?

I focus on the client’s goals and what they want to achieve from their time with me and provide a structured process for improvement.

What is your favourite hole at The Grove and why?

My favourite hole at The Grove is the 5th, a very strong par 4 playing 436 yards from the blacks. It presents a challenge from the tee box with well positioned bunkers and the elevated green makes the approach far from easy.

What’s your top tip for anyone wanting a stronger, more consistent swing?

A consistent pre-shot routine is always effective in improving repeatability throughout anyone’s golf game. Anytime you play with a professional or watch them on the TV, you will notice they will repeat their own unique routine time and time again. The aim is to create higher levels of consistency during the swing.

If someone is stuck at the same handicap, what should they work on next?

I believe the majority of golfers could benefit from becoming a little bit more methodical with their putting. A solid structured set up is just as essential as it is in the long game.

Outside golf, what do you enjoy doing?

Outside of golf I enjoy going to the gym a lot and playing any form of competitive sports against friends. Over the last few years I have started to enjoy playing tennis a lot.

If you could play a round with any golfer (past or present), who would it be and why?

I would play a round of golf with Tiger Woods. His domination of golf and experience of life off the course would be very interesting to listen to.
