Winter skincare tips from Sequoia spa’s Head Therapist

24 November 2019 / Lifestyle / Spa /

As we get deeper into the winter months, the cold has a nasty habit of drying out our skin, and for that reason, it becomes more and more important to look after it. Here, Ellie Waters, Head Therapist at The Grove’s Sequoia spa, suggests five of her favourite products for keeping your skin radiant, hydrated and protected as the mercury drops.

ESPA Nourishing Cleansing_Balm

1. Nourishing Cleansing Balm (ESPA)

“This balm is a great all-rounder for all skin types, but particularly for a more mature skin. It’s a very rich and nourishing balm made with beeswax, which is really great for the colder months when you’re skin gets drier – it also contains rose extract to help calm your skin after exposure to cold, harsh winds. It’s a great way to keep your skin hydrated for longer. I’d suggest applying it in the evening when you can allow more time for the product to soak into your skin. Your skin loses a lot of oil over night – even more so over the winter – so spend a few minutes massaging it into the skin maybe two or three times a week.”

Natura Bisse Glyco Extreme Peel

 2. Diamond Glyco Extreme Peel (Natura Bissé)

“In the winter months your skin is much drier so you have more dead skin cells. Exfoliating removes this top layer of skin, allowing you to get to the skin underneath, which you can then nourish – rather than putting your moisturiser on to dead skin. Where a traditional scrub is usually really gritty, this glyco peel is made from a concoction of fruit acids that penetrate deep into the skin. AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) melts the protein bonds between the dead skin cells – without damaging the layers underneath – allowing it to lift off. This is much gentler than a mechanical face scrub, and this way, when you apply product afterwards it will be far more effective.”

ESPA Overnight Hydration Therapy

3. Overnight Hydration (ESPA)

“Masks are great when applied after exfoliating. This one in particular you can leave on overnight and let it work while you’re sleeping. It’s deeply hydrating and rejuvenating, and has a really luxurious texture, so when you wake up your skin feels silky soft and rejuvenated. Doing this after the peel would be like giving yourself a mini home-facial. The mask has hyaluronic acid in it which is incredibly hydrating, as well as a number of essential oils including lavender which is great at night as it helps you sleep.”

Natura Bisse Diamond Cocoon Sheer Eye Cream

4. Diamond Cocoon Sheer Eye Cream (Natura Bissé)

“The ‘Sheer’ in the next two creams means they have self-adapting pigment that will match your natural skin tone. They’re similar to a tinted moisturiser, only this one cream can match more or less any tone. The eye cream has a slightly lighter consistency; it’s not as rich or heavy, so avoids causing puffiness around the eyes. The idea is to roll it onto the skin rather than rubbing or dabbing it. It’s great at reviving tired-looking eyes and reducing imperfections.”

Natura Bisse Diamond Cocoon Sheer Cream

 5. Diamond Cocoon Sheer Cream  (Natura Bissé)

“The Diamond Cocoon range is designed to strengthen and repair skin exposed to pollution, blue light and solar radiation, while preventing signs of ageing caused by external aggressions. We suggest applying it every morning to create a barrier over your skin, so when you cleanse at the end of the day, any pollution particles are stuck to the protective layer rather than penetrating the skin. Not only that, it leaves you with a natural, healthy glow.”

For best results, Ellie suggests applying the products in the order shown above.
