Our 2020 Highlights
6 January 2021 / Celebrations / Lifestyle /
With 2020 now behind us, we look back on the year that no one will forget in a hurry. Whilst it was challenging beyond words, we are so thankful to those who have supported us along the way. We’d like to remember the highs, not the lows, so here’s a round-up of our favourite happenings at The Grove in 2020.
Just before the first lockdown was announced, we were ready to open the doors to our newly refurbished Lounges. So, when lockdown lifted and guests were able to visit once more, we were so pleased to see everyone enjoying the striking new look, courtesy of Martin Hulbert. Find out more about the new design here.
We’ve also made steady progress on the refurbishment of our West Wing bedrooms, breathing a new lease of life into 50 rooms so far. These rooms feature natural interiors, reflective of the grounds. We can’t wait to see more rooms completed later this year.
Local Community Support
With the help of charities such as Home Start and Small Acts of Kindness, we were able to deliver meals to hospitals and vulnerable people in our community. We are extremely thankful to our staff that chose to volunteer throughout lockdown 1.0 and spent their time in the kitchen!
The Lounges, lobby and bedrooms weren’t the only spaces to see some changes in 2020. Nestled inside our Walled Garden, Jemima’s Kitchen Garden was completely transformed to attract wildlife, grow the freshest produce for our chefs and of course for guests to enjoy – it’s definitely an Instagram-worthy spot!
We also opened the brand new Anouska’s Kids Club, allowing parents the luxury of slipping away for a few hours to enjoy some well-deserved me-time. Not forgetting our other family friendly areas such as Asher’s Woodland Trails, Gabriel’s Football Pitch and Ralph’s Beach, which have all seen a little re-vamp this year.
In August, we hosted the UK’s first ever Football Escapes. The world-renowned brand provide families with luxury holidays complete with Premier League football training. And, with premier training comes premier guest coaches… we were lucky enough to be joined by the likes of Rio and Anton Ferdinand, Marlon Harewood, Billy Wingrove and even Olly Murs!
Following the success of the summer camp, the team joined us once again during October half term and we hope to host more camps this year!
This year, we launched our flexible points-based golf programme, the Clarendon Collection. An evolution of the popular Green Book, those that sign up can enjoy discounts across green fees, tuition, retail in our golf shop and at The Stables and Halfway House – perfect for regular golfers!
Jimmy Garcia at The Stables
We were delighted to join forces with chef Jimmy Garcia, also known as the UK’s pop-up star, to create a mountain-inspired pop up menu in The Stables. Jimmy’s Lodge, also found on the Southbank, will be with us until 14 March 2021, so there’s still time to sample Jimmy’s signature mouth-watering fondue and sharing steaks.
Madhu’s at The Grove
While our partnership with Madhu’s had only just begun before we had to close our doors in December, those who sampled the dishes certainly weren’t disappointed. Set in the heart of the Mansion with fresh new interiors by Martin Hulbert, this pop up promises a South Asian dining experience like no other. Here until 31 August 2021, be sure to book in to taste the flavoursome dishes for yourself.
We are proud to have been featured in numerous publications. Our highlights include Conde Nast Traveller’s review of The Grove as the ‘Perfect Countryside Escape for North Londoners’, inclusion in The Telegraph’s ‘Where to book a luxurious UK family getaway‘ as well as Country & Townhouse’s ‘10 Beautiful British Hotels with Kitchen Gardens‘.
All in all, despite 2020 being one of the toughest years we’ll ever endure, we are so humbled by your continued support and look forward to a brighter future in 2021 for the hotel and for all our treasured guests.
