Inspiration for 2021
6 January 2021 / Lifestyle / What To Do /
2021, we are ready for you! To inspire you for the year ahead, we’ve come up with a range of experiences that you can add to your ‘to do’ list, each aiming to enrich your life, help you to better yourself and most of all, bring joy.
Soak up some culture

Explore lesser-known National Trust properties
Get your culture fix whilst getting outdoors with a visit to a historic National Trust property, each set within stunning grounds. The beautiful Ashridge Estate is close to The Grove, whilst Morven Park, situated in Potters Bar, is a wildflower haven with velvety green grass perfect for a picnic. Or head to Moleskin and Markham Hills in Bedfordshire for the perfect spring time wander through fields adorned with cowslip.

Be a tourist for the day
How often do you really stop and take in the beauty of our capital city? We asked ourselves the same question and realised the last time we walked through London without hurrying to get from one meeting to the next was quite some time ago. So, we’re claiming 2021 as the year to fall back in love with the city that usually attracts millions of tourists each year. After all, just a short train journey from The Grove, it is pretty much on our doorstep.

Discover unmissable art exhibitions
2021 is looking to be an incredible year for art with the arrival of some must-see exhibitions in London. Get ready for the arrival of the biggest privately-owned Banksy collection landing this March, ‘Step into infinite space’ at Yayoi Kasama’s long-awaited Infinity Mirror Rooms at the Tate Modern and get fully immersed in the Anderson aesthetic at Accidently Wes Anderson at The Old Bank Vault in Hackney.
Re-connect with nature

Try outdoor pursuits at The Grove
In 2021, try your hand at something new in the form of our outdoor pursuits! Suitable for adults, kids or the whole family, shoot arrows at the Archery station, glide through our woodland on a Segway or take aim with a game of laser clay pigeon shooting.
Re-connect with nature

Sample SUP (Stand Up Paddle Boarding)
This year, tick paddle boarding off of your bucket list and reconnect with nature with an al fresco excursion on The Thames. Located on the banks of the river, our sister hotel, The Runnymede on Thames will have boards available for hire if you’re staying. Or for complete beginners, join The Good Life Paddle for a lesson.
Re-connect with nature

Borrow a Boris bike
If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that being outdoors is great for your physical and mental wellbeing, so what better way to enjoy the outdoors than by hopping on a bike and cycling round London’s Royal Parks. Why not aim to tick them all off by the end of the year?
Indulge in foodie experiences

Taste English wine
Although international travel is not so easy at the moment, there are many experiences to be had on British soil, and with English wine booming, take yourself on a wine tasting tour in Surrey. Both Greyfriars Vineyard, Denbies Wine Estate and Gusbourne will make you feel as if you’re abroad with a tour and tasting at their scenic vineyards.

Become a cocktail connoisseur
Learn a new skill that will go down a treat at your next dinner party. Master the art of mixology at a cocktail making masterclass at The Athenaeum. You’ll learn about the history of cocktails over canapes before being guided by experts to make three cocktails of your own.

Dine in a dome on the river
At The Runnymede hotel, you can privately hire this dome for a special evening enjoying delectable food on the banks of the River Thames.
Improve your wellbeing

Make more time for self-care
This year, looking after yourself has to be a top priority. Ensure you take plenty of time to restore your mind and body with a massage or facial. Or perhaps book a session with Dr John Brazier, a world renowned doctor in alternative medicine, who treats pain by finding the root of the issue which is often not where the pain is felt.
Improve your wellbeing

Volunteer or donate to charity
In 2021, take some time out to help others, through volunteering or donating to charity. As well as the obvious positive effects this has on those you’re helping, it will also improve your own happiness, giving you a warm glow. There’s an abundance of charities you can support or work with so choose something close to your heart.
Improve your wellbeing

Wild Swimming
This is the year to try something new and with health benefits including an improved immune system, increased happiness and better sleep, why not give wild swimming a go? You’ll be surprised to find several wild swimming spots dotted around so you won’t even have to travel far.
Make memories with the kids

Forest camps
It’s not just adults that will benefit from being out in nature. Kids can experience the benefits whilst we teach them outdoor skills on our popular forest camps. Think den building, campfire cooking and bird spotting in the great outdoors!
