Fit for a Tour Pro

I had seen the 11-metre truck at the top of the driving range on a previous visit to The Grove and was keen to have a look around, so when Head Professional Mike Shrieve invited me down recently, I jumped at the chance to be shown around the fabulous new Tour Truck.
You may not be surprised to know that over the years I have been to many different fitting studios, as well as having spent a lot of time on the manufacturer trucks that support players during European Tour tournaments in the UK and mainland Europe, but I have never seen anything like this before.
The first thing that strikes you as you walk up the truck’s steps is the huge amount of shaft options laid out on the wall, which, when coupled with the click and connect technology, enables Mike and his team to get you trying a huge number of club options in a very short period of time.
Mike then lowered the hydraulic sidewall out onto the driving range and the excitement really started to build as the ability to try the new equipment draws ever closer.
Having already run through what I was aiming to get out of my Tour Truck fitting experience, Mike asked me to hit a few balls with my own clubs in order to get a better understanding of what I was going to need.
After the Trackman had analysed a few of my drives, I was delighted to discover that there wasn’t much I needed to improve. Mike did highlight that I could potentially bring my spin rate down a little in order to give me a few extra yards and within a few seconds he was handing me a new club to try. After hitting a few more balls it seemed to have worked and I had even managed to sneak a few more yards with my driver.
Aside from being able to add a few yards with the driver, what I love about the Tour Truck is that it provides golfers, whether they are new to the game or have been playing for years, with tailored recommendations to help improve their game.
So, whether you are looking to buy a whole new set, or just change the lie of your 8-iron, coming in here for an hour or two will certainly be a fun experience, which is definitely what golf at The Grove is all about.
