In Tiger’s eyes… Tiger Woods at The Grove
While playing at The Grove, when we hosted the American Express
World Golf Championship 2006, Tiger Woods described our greens
as “quick with subtle undulations” and the fairways as
“well-designed with a stadium feel to
them”.
He managed to eagle the 18th hole
on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the event and only just
missed his fourth consecutive eagle on the Sunday, after leaving
the ball inches from the hole. (This hole is now the 9th
hole). He shot 23 under par to win the event by 8 shots from
Ian Poulter and Adam Scott.
The Grove Amateur Challenge – play like
Tiger
Now, every year, from April to October, we host our
Back on Black event so that you can play
the course exactly as it was set up on the final day of the
Championship, when Tiger won playing off the black tees, which are
the hardest and longest shots.
You’ll see three plaques set into the fairway on the ninth hole
showing the position of Tiger's 2nd shot which lead
to an Eagle on 3 of the 4 days. This PGA Tour record remains
unbroken and unchallenged.
